Paul Brown, JD
Prior to teaching at the University of Utah's David Eccles School of Business, Paul was a Managing Director at Sandbox Industries in Chicago. He designed, raised the capital for and co-managed a $300M healthcare-oriented venture capital fund. He also was the founder and CEO of Sandbox’s innovation consulting practice, which connected Fortune 500 companies with strategically relevant innovative startups.
Before that, Paul was a senior executive for ten years with the national Blue Cross and Blue Shield organization, both as Vice President & Deputy General Counsel and as VIce President of Venturing. Prior to those positions, he was an associate and partner in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis, LLP.
Paul currently serves as a director of CleanSlate Centers, Inc. and AMP Media Services, is an advisor to Advantia and Braeburn Pharmaceuticals, and works as a volunteer mentor with the social entrepreneurs participating in Village Capital’s and Healthbox’s startup accelerator programs. Paul also informally advises a number of additional startups. Previously, he served on the boards of Capson, Phreesia, PatientCo, Plan Investment Fund, Bloom Health, Nexidia, and as a board observer for Initiate Systems.
Paul holds a JD from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and a BA from the University of Utah.
